Lost Filling or Crown
Is a Lost Filling or Crown a Dental Emergency? Whether a small filling came loose or your entire dental crown fell out, you need to call us ASAP to get an appointment on the calendar with one of our dedicated Schoharie dentists.
How You Should Handle a Lost Filling or Crown There are a few things you should avoid, like chewing on that side of your mouth. Instead, we recommend sticking to soft foods, rinsing your mouth periodically with clean, room-temperature water, storing your restoration somewhere safe, and, if you’re in pain, taking an OTC pain reliever as directed.
How We Treat Lost Fillings or Crowns
When patients visit us because of a lost dental filling, we almost always take the same approach: replacing it with a new one. With dental crowns, on the other hand, we have the option of re-cementing your previous one back in place as well. If that’s not feasible because the restoration was badly damaged, then we will start the process of having it replaced instead.
