Loose Permanent Tooth
Is a loose permanent tooth a dental emergency? A loose permanent tooth is also known as an extruded or partially dislodged tooth and it may be caused by severe gum disease or physical injury. Loose natural teeth and dental implants alike may fall out even if you feel no pain, making them a dental emergency.
How you should handle loose permanent teeth: Contact our office as soon as you notice a loose tooth. Avoid touching it or eating hard or sticky foods. While you can clean your mouth by swishing warm water, abstain from brushing or flossing until your tooth is treated.
How we treat loose permanent teeth: We will do everything we can to save the tooth with a dental splint or another treatment, but we’ll need to extract it if it cannot be saved. If your dental implant is loose, we may be able to fix it with treatments such as bone grafts.
